I was updating our mailing list and had clicked all over the shop trying to delete cleaned contacts. A quick google led me here and I sorted it within a couple of minutes. Love a good, clear explanation in laymen terms πŸ™‚

Comment on Should you delete old blog posts? by Eb Gargano https://www.productiveblogging.com/should-you-delete-old-blog-posts/#comment-117385 Wed, 14 Feb 2024 14:57:28 +0000 https://www.productiveblogging.com/?p=4860#comment-117385 In reply to Ashleigh.

Definitely leave them up. Or you’ll lose any of the benefit of using an old link and it’ll basically be like you are starting with a brand new post. I recommend you delete everything that’s not salvageable first. Then order your poor quality posts from worst to best and tackle the worst first. That way, the time with the really bad posts will be short. I would also make your poor quality posts hard to find from your reader’s perspective, so at least a regular reader won’t see them unless they stumble across them in a search. That way, your website will appear high quality to your readers. Hope that helps! Eb πŸ™‚

In the meantime, is it better to leave the poor-quality posts up, or delete them until I have the time to rewrite them?

Comment on 10 reasons why people are NOT signing up to your email list by Eb Gargano https://www.productiveblogging.com/why-people-are-not-signing-up-to-your-email-list/#comment-117355 Sat, 10 Feb 2024 15:18:35 +0000 https://www.productiveblogging.com/?p=5214#comment-117355 In reply to Kimberly.

Hi Kimberly, Given you have 3 clear categories on your site: homesteading, homemaking and homeschooling, I recommend you eventually have one opt-in freebie for each category. The more opt-in freebies you have the more subscribers you will get. But to start with, just pick one and make that one. I recommend you make your first opt-in freebie something that will appeal to as many of your readers as possible. And once you’ve created it, make sure you advertise it on your site as a freebie. (Don’t just send it to people who sign up to your newsletter.) The whole point of an opt-in offer is it is far more enticing that ‘Sign up for my newsletter!’ and so you will get far more subscribers. Hope that helps! Eb πŸ™‚

I have 3 optins on my blog.
1. On the home page
2. In my homeschooling category
3. In my homesteading category

I am not sure if I send three different ones or send one that talks about homeschooling and homesteading?
Thanks
Kimberly

Comment on How to write helpful content that ranks on Google – lessons from the Helpful Content Update by Eb Gargano https://www.productiveblogging.com/helpful-content-update/#comment-117341 Thu, 08 Feb 2024 08:39:26 +0000 https://www.productiveblogging.com/?p=10956#comment-117341 In reply to Chris Baxter.

Great to hear you found my article helpful! Are you planning to replace the reviews of equipment that is done with information compiled elsewhere with first hand reviews? If so, I would keep those pages indexed and replace them with the first hand / improved versions as soon as possible. That way you will have the best of both worlds – the benefit on an established URL and first hand reviews / truly helpful content. If not, then personally I would delete them as they are not benefiting your readers and hampering your recovery. You want every article on your website to be truly helpful and beneficial to your intended audience. I would also advise you to look at your UX and E-E-A-T, since improving UX and E-E-A-T will also help you recover from the HCU, as well as benefit your blog traffic long term. Here are a couple of articles to help with that >> https://www.productiveblogging.com/eat/ https://www.productiveblogging.com/improve-user-experience/ Wishing you a successful and speedy recovery!
